Install New Anti Spyware?

Question

I have trend micro anti spyware version 3.5, and every day when I turn on my computer an annoying pop up shows "you have until July 31, 2008 to upgrade". I called tech. sup., and they said the only way to get rid of the pop up is to uninstall the spyware software. Also, updates for the software will not be availeable at the end of this year. What is a good anti spyware program to get?

Looks like spyware. Removing spyware successfully is difficult so preventing it is better. Free spyware programs to download are Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware, Ad-Aware 2007 and AVG. Check out http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-sAFtLsc8e... for more details.

Do not just go on the internet and download a spyware program.  The bad guys pose as good guys and you may actually install a bad program onto your computer. Always triple check your source before downloading. Go to a reputable site that you trust and get a link from them. I prefer to go to grc.com, a site by Steve Gibson for security related stuff.  But lots of websites like cnet.com etc. will have links for tested programs already screened for spyware. I use adaware by lavasoft and spybot S&D.

It modifies Internet Explorer to block a lot of the bad stuff known to Spybot.

There is a second layer of protection for IE that blocks anything that should come through by different aspects.

Spybot host file locking is a tool which locks the hosts file to prevent unauthorized changes.

Locking the hosts file will prevent most hosts hijackers (even unknown) from doing harm;

Locking the IE settings will prevent other users of your computer to change your preferences.

There are many anti-spyware programs on the web, but you must be careful as to which one you get. Some anti-spyware programs are rogue and will in fact install more spyware/viruses onto your computer.
