Installation of Haicom HI-204E on laptop

Hi, Did anybody succeed in installing a Haicom HI-204E on a laptop running W2K or XP? I have the USB cable along with the serial one, but I stumble upon the well known problem of Windows believing the gps is a mouse. I read that the receiver is not "recommended" for use along with XP, but this does not say it is impossible. Any help is welcome, - Vincent
