Question:

Installing DSL router, keeps trying to "steal my IP address?"?

several people have tried to install a DSL router on my home computer so we can have wireless access. We've tried the Buffalo brand, and now have tried d-link. They keep telling me my router is broken, but how can that be if both routers from different brands do the same thing? I think there is something wrong with how it's set up. Any ideas?

  1. If you are getting a consistent error message with each brand, I suspect you are making the same mistake  on each router.  If this router is sitting behing a DSL modem.  put the modem in brif=dge mode and then configure the internet side of the router for pppoe.  you need to provide your userid and password (usuallly your email address (e.g myid@att.net))
