Installing a Multiswitch on Direct TV DVR

I just got a multiswitch because I wanted to be able to watch tv and record something different on my DVR. I have the proper Satellite for DVR but due to my buildings regulations and pre wiring I only have one cable running inside my apt. I bought a multiswitch to help with this issue. It is a 4x2 M/S. Does this need to be inside or outside? How many cables do I need? What type of Cables do I need? Where do I plug what?
