My fence will run downhill about 30' then go along a flat area. How do you run the fence downhill? Can't figure out how it being a straight surface can go down then transition to level ground

  1. He's right, just attach your fencing to your evenly-spaced, 6' on-center, posts.  So, the top of your fencing will be parallel to the bottom (grade).

Once you get down to the last post, attach and cut the material.

Then start a new 'run' along the even bottom side of your property.

  2. Well, your chain link fence will have to angle down the hill, and then not.

When you put in your poles, each will be the same height out of the ground, and so will the levels at which you attach the hangers for the stretcher pole onto which you string the chain link,  That will be the case either running down the hill or across the flat.

The hard part will be in stretching the link fence, as it may  want to stretch askew .... and well it should, to conform to the slope.

Have you read any how-to books or pages on making fence?

    You should before you start.

    even.

The hardest part should be in determining exactly where to set each post

  3. you'll have to cut the links at an angle
