  1. I sounds like when the house was built or at some point since, there was intentions to put a light in that room. I would do alittle investigating. take the cover off the switch and see if there are already wires running to and from it. I would bet there are and alot of times the wires from the switch will be capped off in the attic (based on my experiences). If this is the case it will save you alot of time and work. Alot of times there will be plenty of wire in the attic, capped off to put them where you want them and wire a light.

Worse case senerio there are no wire running from it....still easy to install....good luck.....be sure the power is off before attempting.

  2. You can.

If you want to have the receptacle "always hot", you will have to re-wire that, as well; unless it was only controlled by the wall switch on one side. In that case, you will have to replace the receptacle, using only the conductor pair form the "hot" side. Do not break out the "bridge" between the two receptacles when you install the new one.

The new light fixture will require a grounded ("neutral") conductor. If there is one available in the switch box, you may splice into that one and run it with the new switch leg to the ceiling fixture box. (If you are installing a ceiling fan, be sure to install a listed "old work" fan box.) Remember, you must run the conductors in pairs (or more), you cannot run a single conductor in a raceway, or use only one conductor of a Cable Assembly.

Be sure to cap off, and label, the old conductors to the receptacle, if you do not continue to use them. It is always best to remove old, unused conductors.

When in doubt about anything electrical, call a qualified, licensed electrician. It is not worth taking a chance of injuring yourself or someone else, let alone burning down your house. This should be a pretty simple and straight forward task, but problems can show up where you'd least expect them.

    Good luck.

  3. just plug in a lamp in one of those electric outlets on the wall and the switch which is already installed should work just like a light with on/off

  4. You would need a seperate line...I take it you are wanting to install a ceiling light..I would call in an electrician....or maybe Lowes has a tape on it....check it out.

  5. if there is a light switch in the room and no ceiling light then than that switch is operating one of the wall outlets ( most of the time it will be the top outlet of one of the plugs ) if u want a ceiling light just get the one on a chain that u plug into the wall outlet and hang from the ceiling
