i have a 1984 toyota camry and i got a new stereo to put in it, the previous owner cut the wires and wired the stereo strait into it instead of buying a harness, so i was wondering if anyone could tell me which wires i have to tie together to get it to work, in the car in has the following wires:

Blue, blue/yellow, blue/black, blue/white, blue/red, black/white, green, black, pink/blue, pink/white, pink/yellow, pink/black, pink/green, and white/blue...the wiring harness i have for the stereo has the following:

red, black, yellow, green, blue/white, green/black, white, white/black, purple, purple/black, grey, grey/black, ive tried to look online but everything i could find didnt match up with the colors, can anyone help me???

  1. tis link is 1984 camrys stock wiring colors...http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/ster...

  2. I have installed many radios and know that ,red is positive, black is ground, yellow could be continuous current for the internal clock and memory for the radio.Hook up the main single wires with the antenna just to get the radio to turn on the run some test to find out witch wire goes to what speaker.Normally a speaker will have 2 wires usually same color but one of the with a black line to show that is the ground of the speaker.you might also have a orange color wire for a power antenna if you car has this option.Good Luck take it slow and cautious.

  3. i have installed may stereos and find that if your putting in a new headunit it better to install new upgraded wires as well.

i always run new gold plated speaker cables to the speakers (better quality and you know what wire goes where)

i always run the earth straight back to the battery (this will ensure no bad earth to cause faults)

i always run the live to the remote on the key barrel (ignition switch)

i have never had any problems doing it this way an i know that the all wires are exelent quality with no breaks and in perfect working order.

it takes a little bit of extra time and about £24-£30 more for gold platted cables but at the end of the day your sound quality will  be improved and the wires will now last over the life of your car, probabley never having to be replaced even if you switch them to the next car.
