Question:

Installing a stereo in an 02 Hyundai Accent?

My car is an 02 Hyundai Accent GS Hatchback.

I recently purchased a Dual brand CD/MP3 stereo with a detachable face and i-plug interface cable.

The model # is XDM6820

I bought the car used, and it did not come with an owners manual. My last car was an 86 Cadillac.. so changing the stereo is quite different, and im pretty much clueless as how to get the stock Sony stereo out or put the new one in.

Any tips, instructions, or resources would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

  1. from what i see (see link) the dash piece around the radio and the a/c controls are held in place without screws so you can carefully pull that piece right off.

looks like an I din design so there will be a bracket holding the radio in place with 4 screws in the dash.  once you remove those 4 screws and pull the radio/bracket out, you'll have 4 more screws holding the radio to the bracket:

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS PART:

the screws are made of a very soft metal. meaning you can strip the screws very easily.  get the largest screwdriver phillips head that will fit into the s***w (don't use a drill) and take your time unscrewing.  they tend to stick.

once you get it out. use a wiring harness(strongly recommended, they usually range from 10-16 bucks) to wire in your radio.  use the same screws to attach your new radio to the factory radio bracket, plug in your harness, your antenna and s***w the bracket into place.  Note: you will not use your trim ring or sleeve that came with the new radio to install this radio.   snap the dash piece back in place and your done.
