I have a 55 in pioneer Rear Projection TV.

I recently found out that the covergence amp IC associated with red vertical is bad. I cannot find a tv repairman in the 53022 area that can come fix this. So my choice is to either toss the tv OR try and fix it myself.

The Tv Probably has the stk392-110 part in it and i was told to replace it with the stk392-180. I have found these parts and can get them.

So what i need to know is: Are there any people Out there who can guide me through installing these parts on this tv.

Thank You

  1. first of all you need to know how to solder, then just unplug and open the unit and find the IC's they could be a few places in that type. Under the front cover, on the deflection board or on the signal board.  Check to make sure there are not burnt resistors near the ic's. then you will need heat sink compound to apply to the ic's. clean off the old compound before installing. The ic's are black two inches wide one inch tall with stk392 110 one each of them

  2. If you have no experience in soldering/desoldering, then I would not attempt it.  I see that this is an 18 pin package.  You have to be able to remove the component without damaging the circuit eyelet pads for these pins.  You need to have the proper de-soldering tools and the proper heat solder iron to do a good job.  You need a pencil soldering iron and either a solder pull-it or solder sucker tool or a solder wick braid to remove the old solder from the pins.  Too much heat can destroy or pull off the eyelets.  Use a toothbrush with alcohol to clean of the work area and remove any flux and contaminates. You need to practice removing solder before attempting this.  Don't you have any local friends who know how to desolder that can do this for you?  It also appears that this component is probably mounted on a heat sink.  You will have to mount this item and add some heat transfer compound material when you install the new component.  I am only guessing on this since I am not familiar with this TV.  You might want to read the following:  http://www.qsl.net/soc/solder.htm
