  1. You really don't want to install games, especially newer games on an external HD, because the performance will nose dive. The USB interface is much slower than an internal SATA or IDE drive. Your gaming will become lag city if the USB I/O is saturated.

Externals are mainly for storage of data, not to act like an internal drive. Do otherwise, you can also damage it, as there's inadequate cooling provided (it will burn up the components if it gets too hot).

Gaming is v-e-r-y intensive to hardware. Without enough cooling, you'll make that 1 year warranty (and estimated life of the hard drive) more of a 1 year warranty and a drive that lasts for 6 months.

Try to install the game on the internal HD, and to save space, put any of the saved games on the external drive. If you want to call the saved games from the external drive, you usually have to edit the registry to change the drive location path (and if you're not comfortable doing that, it's just best to install it all on the internal hard drive).

  2. basically you can install anything you want on an external Hard drive, but some of the files have to be on your OS (Computer)

otherwise the computer wouldn't launch the applications.

so you can install it on your 500gb hdd to save space on ya PC but you can only play the game on the PC you used to install in on.

The answer to you Q is you need to install some of the files on to your PC

So the PC recognizes the applications (Sims) you dig.

    i Know its g*y.

the only way around it is if you had a OS installed on ya External HDD
