Installing sound cards.?

I have a soundmax digital audio sound card but it doesn't work properly. The speakers work just fine but I can't get the mic to work. Can I install two sound cards in the same computer and use them at the same time? Or do I have to remove one of them.

  1. If your Soundmax Card is not working and you are planning to install a New one, it would be best to Disable the Soundmax Card first on your Device Manager before installing the new Sound Card to not have any conflicts with the drivers.

  2. No you cannot have 2 of them.  The reason is two differant drivers are required for each of your cards.  Just like with swapping graphics cards, you need to uninstall your old sound drivers first, then shut the system off then start the system up and install the new cards drivers.

You might try to go to the website of your current card and see if they have later drivers for your card than you have running now...  You can go to run programs and type in dxdiag and then click on the sound tab and it will display the type and edition of drivers you have currently running your card.  You might just have a driver issue not allowing the mic to work and a driver up date will do the trick...

  3. If you have the appropriate # of PCI slots then you can install 2. I wouldnt recommend this due to driver issues. Just stick with one that works.
