Question:

Installing the Sims 2 on a laptop with Vista?

I've tried multiple times to install the Sims 2 on my new laptop (it's a Toshiba something or other). It runs on Vista. Everything installed fine but it wouldn't run. So I uninstalled it.

My friend gave me his copy of the Sims 2 Deluxe. I attempted to install it, and when it got to the part after putting in the code where is says "this program will install 'X amount' MB on drive C:, is that okay?" it won't let me click "yes". Actually, it won't let me click anything. I tried to click "no" and also the red X in the corner to close the window multiple times, but it wouldn't work. Each time I tried I had to open the task manager and tell it to end task.

I thought the problem might be files left over from my first install attempt, so I removed the remaining Sims 2/EA games folders, but it didn't help.

What is the problem?

  1. Many laptops don't have the graphics requirements to run the Sims 2. Double Deluxe is even more demanding. Add Vista to the mix and you have very few cards that will enable you to play. These cards are: ATI Radeon 9800 and above. (9800, X550, X600, X700, X800, X850, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950)

    NVidia 6000 series and above. (6600, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950, 8800)

In addition to one of the above cards to run Sims 2 on Vista you must have a 1.3GHz processor with 512MB of memory.

So unless your laptop meets all those requirements you will probably not be able to play. That's why EA made laptop specific games like Castaway Stories, because most laptops don't have the system specs to play the other sims 2 games.
