Question:

Installing windows in a concrete block foundation?

I need to replace some windows in a concrete block foundation. The way it is done on the home now is there is boards screwed to the blocks which the windows sit in and are nailed to. Is this how it has to be done or do they make a window that can be screwed right into the concrete blocks?

  1. any window can be secured to any wall type. it just depends on the fastening method you choose. i have seen windows installed using nothing but expaned spray in foam. ( it is essentially glue with butane injected to make it expand.) but the wood around the opening is the smartest. it allows for easier installation, removal and sizing.

  2. Certainly to have a frame insert will allow any future replacements to be a bit easier, and unless the window frame itself is the depth of a block width, you'd have some aestehtic issues as well as open blocks possibly.

Not knowing at all the type of block you have or the configuration of the block openings, it might just be us generalizing here. We also have no idea of what type repllacement windows you are using.

    Just my two "sense"
