Instead of 55mph national speed limit, should the average speed everywhere be cut 25%, so it'd be 15mph in NY?

Surely, the suffering should be shared.

  1. No, I think the national speed limit should be 60 MPH for cars and non-commercial vehicles and 75 MPH for 18 wheelers and interstate commercial vehicles.

  2. Neither should happen... Bogusness.. I'd be more in favor in quadrupling the money spent on research for alternative energies.. Personally...

  3. Number 1, driving 55 in modern cars with overdrive transmissions actually hurt mileage.  I own a small suv and a 5 litre Mustang.  The Mustang gets its best highway fuel mileage at 73 mph and the small suv with a smaller engine 4.0 L gets its best mileage at 78 mph.  It is all a bunch of c**p.  I actually tried driving slower on a 420 mile trip in the SUV.  I eased away from stoplights and drove 65 to 68 which was out of the ordinary for this trip.  Got the worst mileage ever out of the vehicle on the first leg.  Gave it a shot on the 2nd leg of the trip, same thing worst mileage(21) ever.  Return trip tried it 1 more time driving easy and slower than I ever have in that vehicle, same result.  Filled up for final leg of trip home and threw the easy driving out the window, merged onto freeway like usual on the gas, drove 75 and 80 on parts of the trip and then in the 70 mph zones drove 73 and 70 in the 65 zones and got 24+ mpg so everyone needs to see for themselves, driving slow is not the answer.  It may have worked in the 70's but think about it, those vehicles had 4 speed manual transmissions and 3 speed automatic transmissions. Driving modern cars at 55 mph is lugging the engine period!!!!!!  Check it out yourself.  I did.

  4. They just want to give us more speeding tickets. They need to be raising the speed limit so i can see what my car REALLY has.

  5. Speed limits should be related to safety only, nothing else.    If people want to slow down to conserve on gas, they are free to do so.  No one should be forced to though.  We don't tell people how to live their lives here, or at least we shouldn't be but too many in government seem to think that people need to have the thinking done for them.

  6. i think we should all have to ride vintage mopeds.

not only would that save gas....

wrecks would be like playing bumper cars.
