Trying to cut some pounds. I am eating healthier and working out.

I really like to eat lean cuisines and smart ones because they have really good food options, smaller portions and lower calories (I usually get the ones that have 200 to 350 calories) Are these good for lunch and supper for a 21 year old female that is overweight and 5'10''? )

Inbetween meals I'm snacking on fruit, veggies, water, small amounts of cheese, etc)

  1. i would think

  2. there are a lot cheaper and more nutritious options than lean cuisine and those types of microawaveable food.

while they are low in calories, they are high in sodium in order for them to stay good frozen. high sodium can clog your arteries, making it harder for your stomach to brake down food, and can also lead to serious heart problems later on in life. i would not reccomend eating frozen meals daily, especially not twice daily!

if you wan't convenience, which apparently is what you are looking for as you are eating frozen meals, just cook a large healthy meal, that will last you all week, and keep it in the freezer. then just measure it out the size you want everyday.

for example; i used to cook a large vegetarian chilli (whole weat rice, kidney beans, vegetables, and tomatoe sauce) and then keep it in the fridge and microwave one portion every day.

  3. My friend tried eating those and it didn't work.  She started this online diet journal that she enters everything she eats throughout the day and it helps you add up the calories.  She was able to see what she could really cut out of her life and she was able to make adjustments that she could live with.  Also, drinking a glass of water before you eat will help.  She also visits the gym 3-5 times a week.

Here's the link for the journal:

  4. Yes, those are great replacements. The point is that you are actually eating real, healthy food and not just drinking shakes like slimfast. You are also snacking on very healthy foods on the side as well and it sounds like you're drinking plenty of water. So keep doing what you're doing and you should be a happier and healthier you. Good luck!

  5. It sounds good, but read the labels.  If the food is processed, you might want to try making your lunch the night before and taking it to work.  Also - cheese is fattening.  Try substituting low fat cottage cheese.

When I worked away from home, I made my lunches Sunday night, and they'd last me for several days. I bought a lunch bag and put dry ice in it to keep it all cold during the day.  I included lots of snack sized servings of raw vegetables.  Try things like Orzo and Zucchini (saute sliced zuchinni in olive oil, add cooked orzo, then season with salt/pepper/oregano), Brown Rice (with your favorite seasonings) mixed with sauteed vegetables, and other recipes that are low in fat and calories, but healthy and not processed.   A romaine salad with sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, avocado, and turkey (boil the turkey and chop), and instead of dressing, try putting some tahini (get in bulk section from a health food store) in a separate container for a dressing instead.

Raw veggies make great snacks.  You might lean more heavily on them rather than the fruits (due to the sugar), while you are trying to lose weight.

Good luck.  Here's a link to a blog I wrote on sugar (and avoiding it), if you'd like to view:  http://buzz.prevention.com/community/sha...

  6. I am sorry but could not recommend it. To my knowledge they are a processed food. I would recommend eat regular food and add a fiber supplement with your food intake. It should work out the best and will take care of all your calories!

  7. Sounds like a great idea and healthy too

  8. instead of prepared food look into eating more fruits and veggies. tofu that sort of thing. because even if your body gets to a fit size how will you maintain it. prepared foods will eventually get boring. learn how to make your own foods will help you more in the long run.

  9. Yes those are fine you only need so much. and it sounds like you are doing very good with your diet.

  10. They're fairly healthy, but a lot of them have a lot of sodium so you don't want to make them your sole source of nutrition. Try packing a sandwich for lunch, or a salad!
