Insulin for my cat but using Human syringes?

have 1ml=100u regular insulin syringe for humans...my problem is I need to give my cat 2u...but animal insulin measures 1ml=40 u. Can some one pls help me with this cconversion

  1. And here I thought all insulin syringes measured the same and all insulin of the same name was the same formulation.

    Go see another vet about your cat and be prepared to pay for the advice. My vet uses human insulin and regular .3 31g syringes for animals as well as we use for ourselves.


  2. Can I ask why you are using a human syringe?  Have you not been supplied with cat version?  You definitely a vet to confirm this, you might kill the cat if you get it wrong.

  3. You need to buy syringes that are geared to U-40 insulin.  Humans have been using exclusively U-100 insulins for a couple of decades now, at least in the U.S.  Maybe a diabetes educator nurse can help you convert it.  

    So you're using pork/beef insulin instead of Humulin?  Not sure why...didn't know they even sold that stuff anymore.  Every diabetic cat owner I know uses Humulin or Humalog.
