So im getting my first car in around 5 days, at the mo im looking at a 1.6 ford focus (as my first car lol), ive looked at a few quotes online and under my mums name its still around £2000, which i am ok with. What i was wondering was if you could have the same named driver on 2 different policies (obviously not the same car) and also, if i put my mum as the named driver, i can pay with my card, or will it have to be my mums card?, thanks for any help. Also any tipes for buying a used car would be appreicated :)

  1. You can have the same person on 2 policies but not the same car on 2 policies.

  2. OK 1st... congratulations on getting your first car.... drive safe !

Putting the insurance in your mum's name is technically fraud... yes I know everyone does it, but just so you know... if you will be the main driver of the car, then you should insure the vehicle on that basis, not on the basis that your mum will be the main driver. Insurance companies have always known about this old trick, but are increasingly tightening up on it. They would be quite entitled to refuse to pay out on a claim if they can show you misrepresented the insurance... I've seen it happen. Don't mean to be prissy, just want  you to have all the facts.

In answer to your other questions..... yes a driver can be on more than one policy at a time, there's no problem there and yes you CAN pay for the insurance on your card... I've done it for my sister who looked after my car whilst I was abroad....  BUT it will only make the company think even more that you are the real main driver.

Whatever happens, enjoy your new motor !
