Insurance Didn't pay Room and board... should they of?

My daughter was put in the hospital 3 days after she was born.. we were there half of friday, all day sat. sun. and half of monday... so pretty much three days.. since I was breastfeeding her I stayed in the hospital with her... and they brought her incubator and the billirubin lights in for her juandice.. well now.. the insurance isn't wanting to pay for me being there with her even though I am on the insurance policy too.. is this normal or should i fight it?

  1. The insurance policy will pay for you to stay a hospital room only if it is medically necessary for you to be there.  Not being mean...but it's a hospital....not a hotel.  

    If you were ok, you could have been discharged and come back to the hospital to visit and breast feed your daughter.


  2. if it isnt medically necessary, of course it isnt covered. it wasnt necessary for you to be put up in a hospital room just to feed her. that could have been done on visitation.

  3. It doesn't pay for you to just stay there, if it's not medically NECESSARY for you to stay there!  Any extra time you spend, is VISITING time.

  4. they only pay for medically necessary treatment.
