Question:

Insurance Loss Adjuster?

Looking for a little advice. At the weekend we had a fire in the kitchen and a Loss Adjuster came round on Tuesday to weigh up the damage. The cleaners came in yesterday and have cleaned the kitchen, bathroom and hallway. However, after cleaning, it is now clear that the grout in the kitchen needs to be fixed as the higher level areas are black and the hall/stairs/landing are going to need repainting as the soot damage near the ceiling is now more apparent after cleaning. The Loss Adjuster never mentioned either of these items, so I don't think he would have put them on his report but I am not happy with them being left. What should I do?

  1. Call the adjuster back?

  2. The Loss Adjuster visits on behalf of the insurers to make sure you aren't scamming the firm. His report is between him and his employers. Your claim should detail the repairs needed if that is what the insurers want. Talk to them! They know from past claims what the likely cost is and what items will be damaged, so I shouldn't worry too much. They will probably say 'just do it' and submit receipts for the work. The loss adjuster is after big fish not someone who needs to get genuine damage put right.
