I would like to know how long it takes to get licensed as an agent? Where do you go to get testing materials to study? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Nic

  1. IT IS VERY SIMPLE AND MATERIAL AVALABLE WITH ALL INSURANCE COMPANY AND GO FOR IRDA TRAINING AT ANY INSURANCE COMPANY DIVISIONAL OFFICE .YOU HAVE TO GO FOR 50 HOURS TRAINING AND TEST.THEN YOU CAN WORK AS INSURANCE AGENT.

  2. There are schools specifically for insurance test licensing, but cost hundreds of dollars.

My suggestion would be to go online and find your local libraries. Most libraries have the study manuals for your state, and specific license you are interested in such as life and health, or property/casualty. If they don't have the books, then I'd buy them used from amazon, craigslist, etc. 27 years ago I studied for the test from a book I borrowed from the local library, and have been in business ever since. You will learn that just about everything you study for to pass the test has absolutely nothing to do with real world business in my opinion. It's a great business! Be honest, and don't worry about commissions. Do what is right for your client and the money will come.

  3. Insurance is run by your states dept. of insurance - it is not a federal mandated license. In NY State you'd ned a minimum of 90 hours classroom training before you can sit for the exam.

Go to your states DOI and look for the requirements

  4. If you are looking to get your license check out  http://www.naawashington.com . I can help you get licensed if your into helping people protect their families. Feel free to contact me if this interests you. I wish you the best.

  5. In the case of New Jersey:

    1.  If seeking licensure for any line of authority requiring prelicensing education and testing or waiver (all major lines of authority and bail bonds); either obtain the required waiver from the Department's Insurance Education Unit or successfully complete the education and pass the New Jersey producer licensing exam. Our testing vendor, Pearson VUE, will automatically forward your test results to our system. You may apply directly online (#3 below) if you have no education or testing requirements for the limited line for which you wish to apply.

    2.  All individual applicants OR an officer, director, partner, or owner of 10% or more of a business entity (agency) seeking a resident producer license, must schedule and have fingerprint impressions taken through Live Scan, the State's electronic finger print process. Applications requiring fingerprints cannot be processed until we receive the results of the criminal history review. Therefore, you must complete electronic fingerprinting prior to applying online. Go to Live Scan for information on the necessary forms and how to schedule an appointment for fingerprinting.

    3.  During the application process, you will be asked if you used a trade name in the past or are currently using a trade name. A trade name is also called a "doing business as" name. If you wish to currently use a trade name, it is required that the trade name be approved by the Department before you apply for a producer license. If you wish to obtain information regarding trade name approval, please contact Karla Christie at 609-292-4337 extension 50294. You may proceed to apply online after you have received trade/dba name approval.

  6. Search online for schools.  In Florida, it is a 40 hr course online or in person.  Everything including finger printing came to less than $500.  The test is hard.  You have a lot to learn and need a quality course that will give you questions from previous state exams.
