Question:

Insurance- am I covered here?

We have 3 cars in our family. 1 is covered by Allstate (since my grandmother is really the owner, and she gave the car to me for now) and 2 are by Liberty Mutual. They each have FULL coverage since this is a leased car and it is required.

I usually leave my Ray Ban sunglasses in one of these three cars when I dont need to use it (overnight, rainy day, etc.). I have the receipt for it. If someone breaks into the window and steals the sunglasses, can I get a $179 check from the insurance (along with other stuff I leave in the car, like my iPod, etc.)

Thanks

  1. Personal Property is not covered under an automobile policy.

These items would have to be covered by a homeowners/renters policy. Your deductible would apply.

  2. No. The policy is for the CAR, not personal items. It's in black and white right there in the policy. Your homeowners may cover them but the deductible will likely be more than the cost of the Ray Bans.

  3. Every policy has a deductible . usually around $500.  You pay that first., so you wouldn't get any money.

  4. Auto insurance covers just that, auto.  If it's not attached to the vehicle or damaged in an accident (contents), homeowners may take care of it...yet again, your deductible would apply along with depreciation.

  5. I agree with the other 2 adjusters in that your personal property is not covered under the auto policy. This would be a homeowner's claim, and your deductible would apply. It's probably best to not keep your valuables in the car.
