Does anyone know of insurance companys who might cover a full time nanny who works off the books? I need it so bad and have been living without it for over a year. I am off the book as a nanny and going through h**l to try and find an insurance company. PLEASE HELP! Do you know of any companies I could try? Things I could do?

  1. You might have to show your tax returns & have a minimum income.  When I was looking in NYS a few years ago it was $30,000.  Would your employers write a letter for you?

Look in the yellow pages & look up insurance companies.  They will have brokers listed.

    BlueCross/Blue Shield

    Oxford

    United Healthcare

    Aetna

    Good luck

  2. What type of insurance?  Please be more specific.  Health? Life? Auto? Home?

I'm sure there are plenty of companies that will provide private health insurance, but it will likely be costly.  They probably won't care that you work off the books, just that you aren't in a risky profession.

Blue Cross comes to mind as one of the more well-known.  However, a Google search for "private individual health insurance" will get you lots of sites.

  4. You can apply for individual health insurance. Call a health insurance agent/broker in your area and they will be able to help you. You are not eligible for group insurance because you are an independent contractor.
