My husband has insurance through work. We have 20% for prescription drugs and get semi-private hospital room, etc. Will they cover the 80% for IVF drugs. Will they cover hospital time and procedure? I'm in Canada. It's Assumption Life.

  1. Hi there

II have not sold any Assumption life products.  They are a reputable company though.

Every company has a variety of plans.  If this is group insurance coverage it depends partially on what the employer chose to pay for.

That said, most plans in Canada do not cover In Vitro Fertilization.  You can call the company direct or talk to your HR person if your company has one.  Or check your booklet to see if fertility drugs are excluded.

If the drugs are excluded there is a chance that the semi private room will still be covered.

    Hope that helps

  2. IVF is a voluntary procedure.  You posted this to the USA board.  But the answer is the same - you have to call the number on the back of your card, to see what the coverage is, for IVF.  It's NOT the same, as for "needed" medications and hospitalizations.

  3. Best way to know for sure is to call them and ask. Often different employers can have different plans through the same company, so even if they cover IVF for someone else on YA they may not for your husband. I suspect they won't, but again, just call.
