Insurance coverage question:?

I have blue cross blue shield of vermont, but currently live in illinois temporarily. I have a history of depression, but am wondering if they will cover therapy under my insurance? Do I find a therapist first, contact my primary care physician (who prescribed me drugs), or talk to the insurance company first? I'm still under my parents plan so I'm not sure how to go about all this. Thanks in advance.

  1. you would be covered everywhere even though if have doubt you mail them they will response you very quickly

  2. Insurance is written on a state by state basis.  Unless you're a full time college student in IL, and maybe not even then, you won't be covered for "non emergency" services out of state.

You'll have to call the number on the back of your card to be sure.

  3. You'll need to talk with them as they have many plans available and some random person's experience isn't always going to be accurate. I have Blue Shield and find that if you e-mail them they respond very quickly. You can also call them (the number is on the card), but expect to be on hold for quite awhile.

  4. Your best bet is to call the insurance company and explain you have blue cross blue shied of Vermont but are living in IL and ask them how you can make the best use of your coverage.

Good Luck. I hope you are feeling better soon.
