Question:

Insurance for an item without a receipt - flying from England to thailand?

I'm bringing a keyboard (a yamaha with Midi) that is quite expensive and worth a little bit of money. it was bought a few years ago, but it's a good little keyboard, and I'm coming back to Thailand in June this year after a month in England, but I want to ensure that if it goes missing on the flight, I will be compensated. Because it is a gift, I don't have a receipt, and even though its old, it's still rather valuable. How can I ensure that I have the necessary documentation to prove to the insurance company that I had the keyboard at all if I don't have a receipt? there must be something I can do. I'll insure it from England and thailand as Thai insurance companies have been dubious in the past when things like my phone has been stolen. Any help would be appreciated. NB - I need to know English standards or Thai standards of proof, or how I can prove I have it at all. I don't think American standards would be the same.

  1. If you have not yet taken this trip and still have the keyboard, I would recommend emailing a picture of it to your agent asking them to add it based on whatever value it carries.  Having your agent specifically add this item to your homeowners or renters policy will ensure that it is insured in the event of a loss.

If you have already lost it or had it stolen, then you will want to find pictures of the keyboard from before.  Do you have a picture of it in the box from when you received it as a gift?  This may be enough, or you may need to get the person who purchased it for you may need to find the receipt and verify they gave it to you as a gift.  Hopefully, this is not the case.

    Good luck to you!
