Ok My Girlfriend went to move my truck out of the way and popped my clutch and ran my truck into my garage where my motorcycle is located. I called my insurance company and they said that my truck will be covered by my truck the house will be covered by the house and the motorcycle will be covered by the bike. Well that means accumulated deductibles plus I only had liability on my bike which means no coverage. I live in PA and this to me does not make sense. to me it should all be covered by the vehicle that caused that accident. If I am wrong on that why is that? All my vehicles are on an umbrella coverage with state farm and it looks to me that they should have been separate companies covering my vehicles.

  1. they are right.  home insurance specifically excludes motorized vehicles.  therefore you have to claim on each policy.

  2. Your policy states it does not cover damage you/your vehicle causes to your own property.

Therefore, you have to file a claim under each policy, Auto, home, bike.

And yes, you have to pay a deductible for each.

  3. You have seperate policies on each and you are at fault, so you have to pay the seperate deductibles on each of them.  If it was someone else at fault, then yes, their insurance would pay for it and you wouldn't have to pay the deductible.  Or if you had a package policy (your home, moped, and car all had same policy number) then you would only have to pay the highest deductible.  But, State Farm doesn't have package policies so that is why it is the way it is.

  4. Unfortunately, they are absolutely right.  Even if they were with separate companies, you would still be paying the deductible on each policy.  There is no way around it.  Unfortunately, while yours really was an accident, there are plenty of people who would do this on purpose to get a few things accomplished under one deductible.  Also, property damage on the auto policy is specifically for damage to other people's property.  Damage to your own property, vehicle, bike, and home, falls under the coverage provided on its own policy.

  5. Because you own all three.  If you didn't own the bike and house then the truck liability would cover all.  The Umbrella is just excess liability.

You want to have your girlfriend call her auto insurance carrier and see if they cover her in someone else's car for damage done.
