Hi.My friend had an accident and it was his fault. The insurance company told him that he won't have to pay nothing cause they will cover everything. Now, after 2-3 weeks he received a letter in the mail that he has to pay almost 5000$.It's to late to call at the insurance company, it's closed. The car that he hit was a rented car and he recived a letter from their company (enterprise). Some help guys. What does this mean?He has to pay or what?

  1. He should forward the letter to the insurance company. If his insurance told him they'd pay (which they should if his policy was in force) they'll pay. Enterprise probably did send the letter to his insurance and also a copy to him. Don't stress until you've had a chance to talk you the insurance company.

  2. It's standard procedure. If Enterprise doesn't have your friend's insurance information, they simply send the amount due letter straight to him....which they have done. All you have to do is take the letter down to his agency in the morning and let them get it to his insurance company and they'll handle it. Just because he gets a letter doesn't mean that he'll personally have to pay it out of pocket. This is standard procedure that EVERY insurance company uses when they don't have the other persons's insurance info. Don't sweat it!!

  3. Since you give no details, I can only guess that Enterprise did not get your friend's insurance info and they are billing him personally for the damages. I suggest calling his insurance tomorrow and let them handle it.

  4. He needs to find out what the $5000 is for.  If his insurance company accepted liability, then they should reopen the claim to pay the final bill.

  5. Since we don't have the letter, how can we answer?

  6. How much insurance does he have?  If the damage/injuries exceed the amount of his insurance, the extra could come out of his pocket.  Minimal insurance required by the state is usually not enough.
