Question:

Insurance "Deck Page"??

I don't have insurance currently, but I went to get insurance today and told them I had insurance. I HAD insurance but was canceled about one or two months ago because I no longer live with my step-mom. I still have the insurance card from he old company i was with, problem is is that it only has my step moms name on it, not mine. So what the new insurance company wants from the older company is something called a "Deck Page" which is, I'm assuming, going to confirm I was on the policy. What I'm asking is that will this Deck Page or the older company leak out information leading to me not currently having insurance? Much appreciated, thank you.

  1. They're asking for a declarations page which has info like the policy period(effective dates), named insured, covered drivers, policy limits, deductibles, etc. If your name is on the policy somewhere they won't find out right away that you don't currently have insurance. BUT..........

If you lied to them about having insurance, you NEED to fess up. If they find out you lied on application, they'll flat cancel you. Most of the time, the company WILL find out that info during the underwriting process, so even if you get a policy issued to you, there's a good chance they'll find out and cancel you within a month or two.

  2. So, you LIED on the application which be grounds for denying insurance claims due to material misrepresentation.

Go back, tell them that you were WRONG and face the music.  Even with a PROPER proof, if it had cancelled 2 months ago, it would be useless anyway.

Typically, insurance rates will vary from State to State and can even vary by ZIPCODE! It also will depend on the type of car/truck, coverages, limits of liability, and driving record. Some companies run credit scores and MOST run a motor vehicle report and CLUE (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) report to see about undisclosed accident involvement.

The best thing to do is call a LOCAL independent agent. Don't go across town, or to some other city - look for someone CLOSE. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will be able to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies.

An independent insurance agent will normally have a dozen different companies and if he cannot help you, he should be networked with other local agents that can.

In my agency, we have companies that do NOT run a credit score and welcome drivers with "less than perfect" driving records, and have companies that specialize in youthful and/or newly licensed drivers.

Most of the replies on this site say "go to this on-line carrier or that on-line carrier or that 1-800 number" but I'm sure that when you do, you will find some impersonal computer user with a script to work from and you won't be able to talk with the same person every time you have a problem!

Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps!

  3. Its a "Declarations Page" that lists the policy coverage.  Better go back and fess up that you lied.
