ii was diagnosed at 17 i am 19 currently getting medical cause of my parents income and my current diagnosis brain tumor i was wondering if i worked and made my own income would it be my own or family? i am cvred under family cvrage what would happen to the insurance i live in california would i have to purchase my own insurance are there companine who would do that? i will be able tto work i have a physical disability

  1. Definitely don't try to get your own insurance.  Insurance is protection against future losses.  If you apply for your own now, they're generally not going to cover your pre-existing condition (or at least not cover it to the extent you want).

    Your insurance + your family's insurance will definitely be cheapest under one plan that has been in place since before your diagnosis.

    Stay on the existing plan, and see a broker.  Only they will know how to handle a delicate case such as yours for your specific area in CA.  Don't worry, Health brokers don't charge for meetings usually.

    I know in Missouri, we just passed a law that forces insurance companies to cover dependents till 25 regardless of student status.

    There's also something call the "Pool", that insurance companies must give money to.  It's for specific high cost cases, and you could qualify.

    I hope it works out.  Find a smart smart broker, from a well known firm, that has hopefully heard of cases such as yours, and he's going to give you a lot better options that Yahoo! answers people will.
