  1. You need an insurance cover note.

    The previous answerers have already covered two routes to get one - print one off from an on-line insurer that offers that service, or use a high-street broker who can provide one direct to you.

    There is another option - ask your insurer to fax the cover note to you (or to somewhere you can get it, e.g. the dealer).

    When I bought my car, my insurance company faxed the cover note to the dealer, which allowed the dealer to tax the car before I collected it.

  2. You cannot use a downloaded or faxed insurance cover note to tax a vehicle.  By law you must provide an original.

  3. Go to a high street insurance broker such as swintons etc., they will print you a temporary cover note to enable you to tax your van

  4. Use an online insurance company, you pay online with your credit card and can then print off a cover note that you can use to tax the car.

    We use ebike insurance and did exactly that.....we paid, printed and taxed all in the same day.

    They insure cars as well.

  5. I would like to recommend you possess as much information as you can before taking action,here is a good place for that purpose.http://car-insurance.easyideas4u.info/ca...

  6. You can try this company - http://carquotes.imess.net - I personally have their car insurance. Very fast service and it is cheap. They provided me a copy of sertificate right after payment.

  7. if you do it online then yourcoverd...did it last month...a cop pulled up out side my door as i wasnt desplaying a tax disk..i watched him on the radio,2 mins later i got the thumbs up and he was away....

  8. Hi;

    A cover note is not sufficient to tax a vehicle: it needs to be a certificate, but the insurance system is now computerised: When you take out insurance, a marker is put against your vehicle telling the DVLA that it's insured. You can then apply for a tax disc online, and although failure to display is technically an offence, you'd be very unlucky to be caught.

    You shouldn't have a problem as long as your insurance company updates their data to the DVLA immediately (Ask - some of them don't)
