Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG - Laptop connects to network, but internet doesn't work?

Okay, I have a Nobilis laptop with a Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 BG wireless network card. The laptop is running windows XP. The previous owner was able to connect to the internet through his wireless router. When I brought the laptop to my house, it connects to the Linksys wireless router fine, detects the network and gets excellent signal strength/speed, but when I try to run IE, I get the "Page cannot be displayed" message. A few things to get out of the way, because many people seem to have this problem with this network card and I can't find a solution:

*The wireless card is ON

*Other laptops and PCs in the household use internet just fine

*Have tried resetting the router, nothing changes

*The laptop is getting a usable IP address

*When I run the Intel Pro/Set Wireless troubleshooter, it says there may be a problem with the "Winsock catalog" and that it needs to be reset; it gets reset and CPU restarts but still no internet.

*Updated Intel Pro/Wireless drivers did nothing

  1. A couple things to check and try:

When you look at the Wireless Network Connection properties for the Wireless Network Connection under the item Internet Protocol (TPC/IP), do you have both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically selected? (They are independent. You can get your IP address automatically, but manually set the DNS server IP addresses.)

    Using the

         ipconfig /all

command at a command prompt, does the IP address assigned to your laptop appear to be a valid one for your internal LAN? That is, if the Linksys router LAN is at 192.168.1.1 (the default), is your IP address 192.168.1.x where x ranges from 2 to 254? (I'm sure it is, but never hurts to check.)

Can you ping the router? That is, if you open a command window and type:

        ping 192.168.1.1

(assuming that's your router's IP in the internal LAN) do you get ping response or does it time out?

If you can ping the router, can you ping one of the DNS servers (listed under the output from the ipconfig /all command)?

Essentially, I'm saying take little hops to see where the connection is getting lost.

The "Winsock catalog" thing is a bit troubling and sounds like it could be the cause of your problems. I'll assume you've tried the steps at:

    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=81125...

    and

    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=29935...

and the situation did not improve. Try the ideas above in order to see where the network is broken.

  2. check your fire wall and anti spy ware settings may have to allow

  3. 1. When connecting to the Network does it say "Little or No Connectivity"?

    2. Your wireless card can be ON but not setup to recieve a WIRELESS SIGNAL.

    3. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 4-6 seconds.

    4. GET A NEW WIRELESS CARD!!!!!
