Intellectual hockey fans?

Hockey fans - would you consider yourself to be an intellectual?

If you wonder why I would ask such a question:

I was at a game recently and there was this girl talking to her friend. She said that it's hard to find a good guy who is both an intellectual and a hockey fan so she's going to try her other favorite sport, baseball. She said she thinks she might be more likely to find an intellectual sports fan in the sabermetrics crew.

  1. I was intellectual at one time but after 13 years of staying home strictly with kiddies my brain kinda went to mush but I'm going back to college now along with working full time with a 3.85 GPA so I guess I'm still fairly intellectual.

  2. First of all, she's full of c**p. She wouldn't know an intellectual hockey fan if.....if.....if I showed up and introduced myself.

And baseball, well.....I don't want to seem like I have something against people who are giving Bud Selig their blessing as he destroys the American pastime.

  3. If a girl needs an intellectual guy, its because she is dumb as a box of rocks, and needs a man to think for her.

  4. I would say alot of the people on this board are very intelligent.I'm no brain surgeon but I can't be a dummy to help run the business I do.

  5. i graduated college, have a job, idk i guess

  6. I don't know what intellectual means, so I guess I'm not

  7. i think i am?

high honor roll, if that counts?

  8. Intellectual discussion at a hockey game?  You don't say.  I do enjoy the outright dichotomy of discussing Sarte and Camus during a match in which large, hirsute men on skates pound upon each other vehemently.  I do find it rather vexing, however, that as soon as I begin my treatise on the finer points of Existential thought that my monologue is interrupted by a cacophony from the crowd indicating that the home team has tallied another marker.

  9. Intellectual hockey fan is an oxymoron

  10. me a's hockies faan adn me think me smart

  11. baseball...ha ha that should have told ya something

  12. I am very intellectual. Even though some people don't see that. Which makes them losers. I have a college degree and am a very good person

  13. My name is Lubers, and I like cheese!

  14. die hard hockey fan. 3.4 gp and rank in the 10% of my class=)

all you need to know to be a hockey fan is that the other team sucks and one of their players swallows

  15. Judging by that conversation, I have to say that girl doesnt sound very smart.  That is probably why the smart guys stay away from her.

  16. She's gonna regret her decision if she chose the baseball intellect over the hockey intellect.

Her life will be 9 innings of boring instead of 3 periods of exciting!

  17. Yes.

  18. I have 3 college degrees, working on number 4. And I make 11.79 an hour. So no, I'm not smart LOL.

    S-M-R-T...

  19. Am I an Intellectual????

    Hmmmmm... Lemme think...

And while I ponder over this question a bit, feel free to check out some of my past answers--- remember--Gotta be pretty smart to act this dumb..

Where is that girl!!!!!!!   Let me take her to a game and she will forget all about that E=Mc2 crapola that is denying her an enjoyable experience...

Didnt we see this theory de-bunked on National Lampoons Van Wilder???   Tara Reid HAD that "intellectual" guy we speak of, but in the end, opted for a guy with a genuine love for life--- imagine that.....

  20. Of the 4 major team sports in the NCAA - Hockey has the highest entering grades (B+), and the highest graduation rate (91%)!

  21. I consider myself intellectual. I am on honor roll and got into my high school's IB program.

  22. I'm a history major.  The only way I could get more intellectual and useless was if I went into advanced calculus.

  23. I have an MBA and have been known to read books that have words and everything.

At any sporting event, you'll find people who are well read and would probably pass for being intellectual, and a collection of humanity that live life on the proverbial short bus.

A semi-educated guess would be that the distribution would look pretty similar in terms of percentages regardless of sport.  In other words, go to a game, and there'll be some smart folks, some sort of smart folks, some kind of dumb folks, and some visceral idiots.
