Why is there such a fuss over Obama countinuing his affiliation with Pastor Wright over some true statements that he's made? Yet, no one throws a grain of sand over people who continues to attend Sunday Mass at the same churches who's preists were outed for child molestation. I understand that the preists move around from church to church but I feel that that scenario is far more disturbing than Pastor Wright's opinion, which I do agree with.

If you don't agree with Pastor Wright, that's fine but you should probably take a trip to your local impoverished neighborhood and see how people are treated.

So, what's worse: Obama continuing to fellowship with Pastor Wright or Catholics continuing to fellowship with the Catholic Church knowing that a lot of preists have a very disgusting dark side, a fetish for little boys?

  1. Obviously, child molesting is worse than voicing a political opinion, no one is suggesting otherwise.  However, what Rev. Wright said was "God d**n America,"  among other equally idiotic things.  A man running for President of the United States cannot associate himself with a man who makes those remarks.

We should confront the issue of race here in America.  There is still too much prejudice and bias.  However, things are better now than they have been in this regard.  And so long as we avoid devisiveness, as Obama wisely suggested today, then things will continue to improve.  If we tolertate radicals on either side such as Mr. Wright, then we will move further and further away from the American ideal of E Pluribus Unum and move deeper into despair and misery.

EDIT:  OF COURSE it is a valid point to suggest he shouldn't associate himself with Rev. Wright!!!  Step back and think about what you are saying!   We  are judged by the friends we choose and the company we keep.  If you are not running for public office, then I guess you can choose to hang around the most radical, low-life people you could dredge up.  Presidential candidates do not have that luxury...not if they want to have ANY chance of winning.  Rev. Wright just cost Obama tens or possibly hundreds of thousands of white voters.  I f Obamamcontinued to associate with him, it would cost him even more.  Your grasp of politics is imperfect.

  2. I can relate, but first lets correctly spell priest--I'm catholic and understand where Sen. Obama is coming from, and no I have not deserted my faith due to some priest's action although it does greatly offend me.  Hopefully people will realize Sen. Obama's former pastor must be held accountable for his own action and not hold this against Sen. Obama.

  3. Even Obama repudiates Wright's hateful statements.

Although crimes have been committed by Catholic priests, no priest has ever preached from the pulpit that it is acceptable for priests to abuse children.  I agree that in many ways this matter was handled poorly by the Catholic Church, but no worse than in other churches and many non-church organizations as well.  I wish it had been handled much better.

But the fact remains, no Catholic priests, not even the pedophiles, have preached child abuse.  They know that it is against God's will.

But Jeremiah Wright has preached hatred for the US and for whites.  Since Obama was an active member of his church foe 20 years, it is fair to be concerned about it.

I don't think Obama hates the US or whites.  And it may be that Wright has some admirable qualities.    But I am sure there are plenty of admirable Black pastors who do not preach hatred.  I wonder why Obama didn't pick one of them....

Well, I wasn't voting for Obama anyway, so for me the question is academic.  Still, I have admired Obama's demeanor throughout his campaign.  And I don't admire Wright's.

  4. Obama is firstly african american in which no president was or is an african american ... 1st fuss

Obama is a democrat while the rest are all republicans .. 2nd fuss

Obama your third paragraph that u wrote is also correct .. 3rd fuss

  5. Maybe it is better not to go to churches where there is a lot of hypercritical people and politics. I think every church has it's own secrets and  congregation with someone who is there so they can have their sin's washed away from the night before.

I think we can only look and judge our selfs. Can't throw stones at glass houses. Every place, religion, culture has something someone else will not agree with.

And doing things to children is not a Catholic  thing it is just a WRONG thing.

  6. Your open minded view of our present state is commendable.

We have "political correctness" going on, while institutions are crumbling, the catholic church being one of them.

People used to follow, but slowly regressing.

I know I have my own crucifixes spread around my home, and even have a mantel with prayers and candles set up.

If this is the trend that is needed for people to not accept all the abuses, then so be it.

    It works for me.

  7. None of the presidential candidates is Catholic, and (afaik) priests don't preach sermons in favor of molesting children.

  8. you should write columns for the usa today

  9. An priest, or any person abusing children is inexusable. Most Catholics who continue to practice their religion do so because of their faith in its teachings, which they believe to be those of Jesus. While they feel completely betrayed and disgusted that some of their religious leaders have done such awful things, Catholics do not pray to priests, or even to the Pope, but to God, Jesus and the saints, who to their knowledge have not done any such thing. The handling of cases by the church has often been very bad, but once again, I must stress that the core of Christian belief is in its teachings. It must also be remembered that while no priest (or person) is perfect, the majority are good men who have dedicated their lives to serving their God and have committed no crimes against children, and are just as horrified as anybody else at the actions of some of their colleagues.

  10. Very valid point.  I find BOTH disturbing and unacceptable

  11. Very good point.

but the fact is that the presidential election is top priority in the news right now.

  12. It's one of the biggest tools of republicans to deflect the attention of americans to fringe issues.

They've had a long history of doing exactly this.

  13. obama is running for u.s presidency, that is the difference

  14. No to OBAMA
