Question:

Intelligent Design, Creationism, or Evolution?

Note: Please just keep this the facts. Give refrences and proof, let's not make this a shouting match.

I'm all for figuring out which one is true, but I've been wondering how were we created/how did we come into existance? And how can it be proved. Every question has an answer, and I still can't seem to find one to this question.

  1. Fact: all matter, energy, time, has their orgin at the singularity of the big-bang.

Fact: Intelligent Design, ID, does not explain if design was done by one intelligent being, or many intelligent beings working over a long span of time.  It says nothing about when, where, or how and, it makes no predictions---it is not science.

Fact: creationism is not science for the same reason.

Scientific theory: Big-Bang origin of the universe; evolution, consciousness, all energy and matter, patterns and phase-transitions, interaction in the universe.

The highly accurate and reliable field equations of Einstein's General Relativity (describes the universe in terms of large massive objects) and Max Planck's quantum mechanics (describes the universe in terms of very tiny particle systems) tell's us how the universe happen and the conditions surrounding the event up to a point just short of the big-bang effect.  If, and when, they are successful at combining General Relativity and the equations of Quantum Mechanics, they will have the final answers to "all" of creation---a TOE, a theory of everything---as physicists like to call it.  So far, Quantum Mechanics can be successfully integrated with Einstein's Special Relativity, but not General Relativity; even so, this tells us a great deal about how the universe and everything within it works.

I firmly believe that one cannot obtain a full understanding of any of the other sciences without at least a passing knowledge of both classical physics and quantum physics.

  2. Since you are asking this in the Science section, I'll start by saying that there is NO CONTROVERSY WHATSOEVER within the scientific community.   Evolution is accepted by the overwhelming *consensus* (not just majority) of scientists in the world, as not only one of the most solid scientific ideas in the history of science, but also one of the two *CORNERSTONE* ideas of modern biology (the other one being cell theory).

    That's the scientific opinion.

As for your own *personal* opinion, you first have do decide how much stock you put in the opinion of scientists *ON MATTERS OF SCIENCE*.   People who are Creationists have developed a deep-seated mistrust ... to the point of outright contempt ... for scientists.   Because to believe in the most extreme form of Creationism, you have to believe not only that biologists are wrong about evolution, but paleontologists are wrong about the age and interpretation of fossils, and geologists are wrong about the age of rocks and the earth, and astronomers are wrong about the size and age of the universe, and physicists are wrong about *BASIC* issues such as whether radioactivity is constant, or the speed of light is does not change (in short, Creationism leads you, eventually, to concluding that people like Einstein are complete morons).

In short, Creationism contradicts and discards so much of what is modern science (not just evolution), that what is left barely resembles modern science at all.

Intelligent design is a very interesting set of *questions* for evolution.  Questions like: Where does complexity come from?   How does information arise?  How would we recognize "intent" if we saw it?  How would we recognize the presence of "intelligence"?  Etc.

But the problem is that a set of *questions* is not a theory.   You actually have to provide some answers.  And simply referring to an "Intelligent Designer" that has unknown properties, unknown origins, unknown energy source, unknown mechanism, unknown *motives* ... is not an explanation of anything at all.   It is replacing solvable questions with unsolvable ones!

The second problem with these *questions* that Intelligent Design poses is that evolution is actually able to answer them just fine.  The problem is that the advocates of Intelligent Design seem quite adept at asking these great questions ... but *terrible* at listening to the answers!   For example, ID advocates will ask about the concept of "irreducible complexity" and challenge evolution to explain such structures as the eye ... but when scientists reply with a perfectly plausible explanation of how the eye evolved, the ID advocates just continue to ask the question ... over and over ... as if the mere *asking* of the question is enough, and as if the scientists had no answer at all!

So the bottom line is that *ON MATTERS OF SCIENCE* you should really try to understand *WHY* scientists would overwhelmingly support a theory of evolution ... for over 150 years ... if there wasn't *COMPELLING* evidence.   Scientists are NOT morons!

  3. Apropos eri's answer:

"... intelligent design is creationism in a cheap suit" - correct.

"Creationism has no proof." - correct.

"Evolution has all the proof." - Incorrect.  Evolution has evidence to support it.  Very convincing evidence.

  4. in the bible it says that GOD made all of us.by dirt.I strongly agree

  5. i personally think its a mix between creationism and evolution.

for example, lets take the Bible: it says god created everything in 7 days but the sun wasn't created until the 2nd or 3rd day so how do we know it was 24 hours. this would mean it could be a week, month, year or maybe even millions of years and during these many years everything that naturally existed on earth has evolved to suit the needs of the species needed today.

  6. I don't think you ever will find an answer to this question.

All of these are simply theories and no one has any tangible proof of any of them.  I think it is a matter of what you feel is right, or what you believe in.  Creationists believe that God exists outside of time and has always existed and that he spoke the universe into existence.  Intelligent design believers believe pretty much the same thing.  Evolutionists believe that dark matter existed and then exploded and the universe was created and all life evolved from there.

After researching all of these, I have chosen to accept the existence of God and creationism.  From our perspective as humans, everything has a beginning and an end.  Therefore, I must question evolution by asking where did the matter come from that was the source of the Big Bang.  Did it always exist?  If not, where did it come from, what was its beginning?  Science has yet to answer this question.

Creation is based on faith, not science.  Since none of these theories can be proved, faith seems the only way to make a choice as to what to believe.

    Hope this helps.

  7. First of all, intelligent design is creationism in a cheap suit, as determined by Kitzmiller vs Dover (2005).

Creationism has no proof.  All they have is their interpretation of a 2000 year old book written by sheperds and their own misunderstandings of science.

Evolution has all the proof.  Fossil record, genetic evidence, and is supported by every other field of study.  http://www.talkorigins.org

If you're really looking for proof, evolution wins every time.  But if you're looking for reasons to satisfy your pre-supposed superstitions, sorry, there aren't any - not in reality, anyways.

  8. It depends on whether you want to talk about science or religion.  Evolution is the best scientific theory to explain how we got here.  It is backed up by the discovery of the fossil ancestors of today's animals.  For instance, the remains of Dolphins with legs.  Mutations occur, and if they are advantageous to the animal, that animal survives long enough to breed and have descendants.  Personally, I see no reason why the Bible's creation story and evolution should be at odds.  The Bible could not have meant literally 7 days, because there were no 24 hour days before the solar system was created.

"If all motions were reversed then in 15 billion (thousand million) years they would all converge at the point where the big bang began —which can be regarded as anywhere since everywhere diverged from the same point at the beginning of time. Before 15 billion years ago there was no time — nothing existed of any kind."

Creationism and intelligent design are the same thing.  The only thing that backs them up is personal faith, you can believe it or not.  There are many religions and many holy books, which people believe in just as strongly as Christians believe in the Judeo Christian Bible.  But still I am struck by the similarities between the Christian Bible's creation story and the scientific story as to how life began.  Scientific creation just takes a long time, and since we really can't know how long the bible means that it actually took, I don't see a problem.  However, I don't think that creationism should be taught in public schools, since it is religion and there is no science to back it up.  In the US we have separation of church and state and the freedom to worship or not worship in any way we want, without intervention by the state, so religion should be taught at home or at church and science at school, unless you choose a private religious school.  Teaching religion in public schools would be forcing a state religion on us.
