Intello triumphs in Prix du Jockey Club – Horseracing News
Intello proved his class in the Prix du Jockey Club (Group 1), winning the race comfortably by a couple of lengths. He started the event as the favourite and did not let his owners down in the end, bagging a cash prize of £696,829.
A total of 19 stallions took part in the all-important French race and the competition was expected to be a tough one. Moreover, the overnight rain left the ground good to soft, which made things more interesting.
Once all the challengers broke into the race, it was clear that Intello was very strong. Normally, the jockeys try to settle their horses in the midfield but that was not the case with Olivier Peslier, who partnered the winning
stallion.
Although the overall distance to cover in the event was more than one mile, Intello did not opt to save energy, as he had plenty in reserve. He attacked right from the start and finished ahead of his rivals with ease.
Co-owner of the winning colt Gerard Wertheimer said that he was expecting such a strong show from his challenger. He added, “I can't say we're really surprised. He ran very well in the Poule d'Essai where he was a little unlucky.
That's why we aimed here. As for the future, that's up to the trainer. Each to their own job.”
This was Intello’s fourth victory overall out of five outings. He has always enjoyed his partnership with Peslier, as all of his victories have come under him. There was only one time when the failed to finish on top of the table,
but that was under a different jockey.
Looking at his record, it was always going to be difficult for all of the other runners to battle against him in the Prix du Jockey Club. Despite that, Morandi fought hard and really entertained his friends.
Although the French colt was unable to pose any major threat to the winning stallion, he was able to secure the runner up spot, which earned his owners a cash prize of £278,780. He was priced 68 to 10 for the race, which means
that the bookies did not really expect him to be strong, but he proved them wrong.
