Intense competition to light up the Group 3 Sakhee Oh So Sharp Stakes (Fillies)
The first race of the second day of the Cambridgeshire meeting at Newmarket will be the Group 3 Sakhee Oh So Sharp Stakes (Fillies). The prize money of the 2011 edition of the race was bagged by the Clive Brittain stable with the under charge, Alsindi, with jockey, Tom Queally onboard.
The seven furlong race that is scheduled for Friday, 28th September has instigated the rivalry between the racing sensations, Califante and Annie’s Fortune. A threatening entry for both the racing icons is, Power Of Light.
She was nothing less than impressive under jockey, Frederik Tylicki, as the two swept past the competition right in the final furlong on 15th September at Newcastle in the maiden.
The two will team up for the graded event today. Echo Of Light’s daughter is backed by 7 to 2 chances for gaining excellence over the field, and has drawn the fourth stall.
The trainer, Mahmood Al Zarooni, commented:
"She won nicely on her debut but it's hard to tell how good the race was and we need to run her in a Group contest to find out how good she is".
"I don't think that step down to seven furlongs will be a problem. She has shown speed in her work and it is quite a stiff seven furlongs at Newmarket."
Montjeu’s two-year-old bay filly, Annie’s Fortune, is supported by 6 to 1 odds for the Pattern company challenge today and also holds an entry in the in the Group 1 Shadwell Fillies’ Mile later in the day.
"She's never stopped improving and I'm looking forward to running her," said the Twyford trainer.
"She's a really nice filly and will make a lovely three-year-old. Michael (Murphy) could not ride her last time as he was banned. He has won on her and gets on really well with her."
Trainer, Richard Hannon, has already captured one of the most significant races of the day one card through Havana Gold in the Group 3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes. 2012 turned out to be the third time in the last four years that the trainer got blessed with the honour.
Today, he has the field covered up with Califante, Light Up My Life and Rayaheen.
