Intense workouts for Rafael Nadal and Fernando Verdasco in La Cartuja – Tennis Special
Failing to impress his fans in the season ending events, Rafael Nadal is now training hard along with his compatriot Fernando Verdasco at the Stadium of La Cartuja in Seville, as Spain takes on Team Argentina for the Davis Cup final. The two are the main
weapons for the Spaniard’s, however; the Spaniards also have David Ferrer who has up to his best for this season.
Day two of training went down with Verdasco and Nadal exercising for nearly two hours on the track and followed with a match between each other with maximum intensity. After being defeated by the Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at London, Nadal took his flight
back home to practice with Verdasco mainly focusing on his serve.
Toni Nadal, uncle and trainer of Rafa is scheduled to join the team for greater assistance as the top Spaniard has been suffering from physical dilemma and also with stomach problems during the ATP World Tour Finals.
Other team members, Marcel Granollers and Feliciano Lopez also joined the two top Spaniards with their captain, Albert Costa leading the training session. Feliciano Lopez practice consisted of a 'two against one' as Granollers and Marc Lopez on one side
forcing the higher ranked Spaniard to play at his maximum strength and agility.
Looking forward to join Team Spain in Seville is David Ferrer, World No.5 and second in Spain. Ferrer left with his physiotherapist as he is recovering from the fatigue accumulated in London as he reached the semi-final round, yet lost to the Swiss Express.
“It is true that I won the Davis Cup twice, but it is a very important end. Now I want to rest, because it'll get tired, and I also used to the change of runway, but Davis Cup and we have to play it, there is no other. The truth is that I struggled a bit
into the game, and when I had a little chance in the first set I have not taken advantage of. That's against an opponent like Federer is paid, and at last he has been the best”
The centre court at La Cartuja, Seville might be an advantage for the Spaniard; however, the Argentine army is as good as the Spaniards at home. Juan Monaco, who won his team the decider match against world No.1, Novak Djokovic, is the main weapon in the
Argentine arsenal and is ready to prove his presence on the court against all odds.
