I am looking to get a full time job in a few weeks but want to do driving lessons. I'm not sure whether to do an intensive course before i start my job because then i will not have to take lots of days off. However I have no previous experience driving. What would be best?

  1. You will turn out a better driver if you spread your lessons over a number of weeks.

That way, you will encounter different road conditions, traffic levels, times of day/night, and of course weather !

    Good luck.

  2. Intesive courses (driving instructors avoid the phrase "crash course") do not suit everyone. I would advise that you find a reputable local school that offers both hourly lessons and intensive courses, preferably a school that has been recomended by someone that you know and trust. Start by booking one or two hourly lessons then ask your instructor if an intensive course would be of benefit to you.

  3. If you have no driving experience I wouldn't recommend it. To work the courses have to be very intensive and quite fast moving, a certain level of ability is needed first.

You don't need days off to take driving lessons, just find an ADI that is available around your work committments. Many will even pick up from work for a lesson and drop you at home.

  4. There are huge advantages to the so-called crash course.

One assumes you would be undertaking the 2 week version, which is more than adequate for most learners. The better ones include distance, night and inclement weather driving, after starting on a "pan"....... a wide expanse, where the basic co-ordination and manouvering skills can be aquired, before "hitting" the road.

I would ask to inspect their facilities before signing on.

I rode with some VERY DANGEROUS types, who went on to pass their tests with flying colours!

  5. Several driving lessons over several weeks would be your best bet by far, you will get more out of it.

  6. .

I've taught both and it became quickly and patently clear....I would not advise an intensive course....you will be wasting money. Better to do a 2 hour lesson every other day.

Try to learn trigonometry in 1 or 2 weeks and I think you'll agree you need time for things to be fully comprehended and to sink in!!
