Inter Milan: Javier Zanetti shocked to see both Manchester clubs drop out of the Champions League
Inter Milan Captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Zanetti-c18096 has claimed that it was a shock to see both the Manchester Clubs drop out of the UEFA Champions League. Manchester City and Manchester United were considered contenders for the Champions League title and it was a surprise
to see them fail to make it to the next round.
Manchester United lost 2-1 to the Swiss outfit Basel, while Manchester City, despite winning 2-0 against German giants Bayern Munich, dropped out as their situation was dependant on Napoli’s result. The Italians duly defeated Villarreal to progress through
to the next round after decades of excruciating wait.
On the other hand, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 lost their last group stage game at home to CSKA Moscow 1-2. However, regardless of the loss, the Nerazzurri managed to advance to the next round.
Zanetti was talking to the media after the game, where the defender hailed the Russian outfit for earning a victory. The Argentinean international said:
“CSKA believed to the end and they deserve credit as well as their qualification. The important thing for us was to finish top of the group, so now we hope for a good draw.”
Moreover, the Nerazzurri captain was shocked to see two big English clubs crash out of the competition.
“I was a little surprised at seeing some important teams left out of the draw for the knockouts, but that doesn’t make the competition any easier. The teams that are left will give their all.” He said.
There were chances for the Italian giants to score a second goal in the game against CSKA Moscow and the most prominent one was when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-Milito-c11166 got the opportunity to score from point-blank range. However, the striker hit the goal post instead. Zanetti
believes that opportunities can be missed by great players in the forward block and that the team still believes in the prolific forward.
“It’s a shame for Diego, but these moments happen to a striker and even the easiest goals won’t go in. We must give him time and keep the faith, because he’s still very important for the team,” concluded the Inter Captain.
Back in the Serie A, Inter are still struggling in a lowly 16th place, and host Fiorentina at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on December 10.
