Inter Milan and Juventus battle to a scoreless draw
When top clubs go head to head the passion can always be felt, but with so much at stake, and each team working to not give the game away, it can often lead to results which fail to dazzle the eye. Such
was the case when Inter Milan and Juventus, two of the biggest sides in Italy, fought to a cautious 0-0 draw.
Neither side managed a shot on goal in the opening 10 minutes. The first chance came from Dejan Stankovic, on 12 minutes, who volleyed the ball from a full 35m out for Juventus keeper MArco Storari to
save with ease.
Though Inter might have had the first few chances, it was Juventus' Serbian midfielder, Milos Krasic, who brought his side back into the match with a couple of strong efforts, once volleying the ball just
wide of the target and then forcing a tremendous save from Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar only a minute later on a fine effort.
Juventus looked to have gained the lead when Krasic set up striker Vincenzo Iaquinta to tap the ball into an empty net, but the goal was called back for offside.
A first half injury to Inter striker Jonathan Ludovic Biabiany, who had got the start in place of the injured striker Diego Milito, meant that the Iaquinta who sat out Inter's midweek clash against Werder
Bremen in the Champions League had to be pressed into action early. He nearly got Inter on the board after stretching to latch onto a crossed ball from Samuel Eto'o, but the ball flew just wide.
Wesley Sneijder started the scoring chances off in the second half with a free kick which flew just wide of the post. Krasic, again, caused the Inter defence troubles and was only denied scoring the opening
goal by a tremendous sprawling save from Julio Cesar.
Both keepers were in fine form and the save of the day came from Storari on the 67th minute when he dove to deny Inter defender Maicon off a header from a mere four yards out.
Even with a quarter of an hour left to play both sides seemed satisfied with the result. Alessandro Del Piero had one last opportunity to break the deadlock with a free kick, but his effort was saved easily
by keeper Julio Cesar.
The result, coupled with Lazio's 1-0 win over Brescia, drops Inter out of top spot for the first time this season as they are now tied with Napoli and AC Milan with 11 points after six matches. Juventus
currently sit in seventh place tied with five other clubs on eight points.
