Inter Milan boss says Tottenham Hotspur have improved
Inter Milan manager Rafael Benitez has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have improved from his time as manager of English Premier League club Liverpool.
Benitez — who left the Reds at the end of last season — is preparing his men to take on Spurs in a UEFA Champions League group stage match on Wednesday, 20 October, as Milan try to defend the title they won last season under Jose Mourinho.
While Benitez managed Liverpool in the Champions League group stage in each of his six years in charge at Anfield — including a win in the competition in 2005 and a final appearance in 2007 — Liverpool’s place in Europe’s elite club competition has been
taken by Spurs this season after Harry Redknapp’s men finished fourth in the EPL last term.
Ahead of his side’s clash with their fellow group leaders at the San Siro, he told reporters that he was impressed by the improvement Spurs have made.
'Spurs have quality and desire'
He said that: “Clearly there's a difference, Tottenham have improved a lot — they've invested a lot of money in players and have done so in the right way. Once again you can understand that it's the players who have made the difference in almost every match.
Tottenham are an example of a team that has the quality and desire to do well.
“I think they're doing well [in their first year in the Champions League], they seem to have energy, quality and the desire to win, hence it will be difficult to beat them."
Benitez will be ready for the London-based side, however, and with in-form striker Samuel Eto’o, he has a player who is capable of damaging any team. The Spaniard said that: "Last year this team relied on (Diego) Milito and did so practically the whole year,
winning three titles (Champions League, Serie A and Italian Cup). If this season we have to depend on Eto'o in the same way I'll be very happy."
