Inter Milan boss says team are ready for Champions League match
Inter Milan manager Rafael Benitez claims that his side are ready to face FC Twente in the UEFA Champions League despite a string of disappointing results.
The defending European champions have struggled in Serie A this season and remained in sixth place, nine points behind AC Milan, after their 2-1 loss to Chievo on Sunday 21 November.
They were also beaten by fierce rivals Milan on 14 November and stuttered to a draw against Lecce on 10 November.
However, Benitez is confident that his side can use the high-stakes game against Dutch champions Twente to put the recent disappointments behind them and make a push for silverware.
He told reporters: "It's an important game for us, Champions League games always are and everyone knows this is important and has nothing to do with Serie A. Everything depends on us. We have played many good games, others less so, this one is special, if
we win we are through.
"We have to win together. I am not thinking of the past, nor about Samuel Eto'o's ban (for a head-butt against a Chievo player). I have faith for our future games and I think it will be important to recover injured players. The team is united and we want
to win, just like all the others on this level. I have been through similar situations in the past. We can still win things. We have faith."
Inter are currently sitting in second place in Group A as a result of their head-to-head results against Tottenham Hotspur. Inter won the first game between the sides 4-3 at the San Siro but were humbled in a 3-1 defeat at White Hart Lane two weeks later.
Both sides have seven points, with Twente two points behind them. German outfit Werder Bremen are at the bottom with two points.
