Inter Milan coach Leonardo says his side still not out of UEFA Champions League
Inter Milan manager Leonardo Nascimento de http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Araujo-c6435 remains adamant that his side is still not out of the UEFA Champions League despite the humiliating defeat against German side Schalke 04.
The Italian side were clear favourites to advance to the semi-final of the competition. However, Schalke grabbed a shock victory to dent Inter’s hopes of retaining their Champions League crown.
Reigning European Champions Inter were up against German team Schalke in a two-legged quarter-final in the ongoing 2010-11 Champions League campaign. The first leg was a home fixture for Inter played at the San Siro on 5 April, 2011 in which Schalke thrashed
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 5-2 to gain a convincing advantage over their Italian opposition.
The scores were level at the half-time (2-2) but after the break Schalke netted three goals to enhance their chances considerably to progress to the semi-final.
A disappointed Inter manager said after the game, “The game started in the best possible way for us. The lack of balance didn't have anything to do with the number of attackers we played. We were eventually punished very hard by Schalke, They got seven chances
and managed to covert five of them. In the end, they deserved their win though as we simply weren't good enough.”
Leonardo admits it is going be a tall order but his side can still go through to the semi-final.
Inter Milan were coming off a 3-0 defeat against derby rivals AC Milan in the Italian Serie A and club president Massimo Moratti has stated that fatigue played its part in his side’s embarrassing defeat against Schalke.
He told club’s official website, “It was a loss linked to fatigue. What surprised me was the size of the defeat, but the fatigue was also started to be seen on Saturday (3-0 loss against AC Milan) and it is impossible finding the freshness after a few days.”
Inter Milan travel to Schalke for the second leg on 13 April, 2011.
