Inter Milan injury woes continue
Inter Milan manager Rafa Benitez must be wondering what more could possibly go wrong after losing two more players to injury.
Nigerian Joel Obi and Argentinean Diego Milito are both suffering from hamstring injuries after their 1-0 loss to cross-town rivals AC Milan on Sunday 14 November.
"At the end of Inter-Milan, Joel Obi and Diego Milito were examined by Prof. Franco Combi, of the F.C. Internazionale medical team, to ascertain the injuries suffered in the first half of yesterday's game," read a statement
from the club's official website.
"The exams highlighted that the Nigerian suffered a second degree muscle pull in his left hamstring. The Argentine striker had instead suffered a first degree muscle pull at the base of his left hamstring."
Injuries have become a debilitating problem for Inter this season as they have watched players such as
Maicon, Esteban Cambiasso, McDonald Mariga Wanyama, Sulley Ali Muntari, Thiago Motta, Walter Samuel and Julio Cesar, all miss time with injuries.
As a result, Inter Milan have begun to slip down the Serie A table with only one win in their last five league games. The reigning champions now find themselves tied for fourth with Juventus on 20 points after 12 matches.
Some sections of Inter's fan base have been pointing the finger at Benitez for the cause of Inter's difficulties this season. But club owner Massimo Moratti has spoken with the media in defence of his team's coach, suggesting that it is the club's injury
troubles that are the heart of the problem.
"We are doing more than okay in the league. The situation is difficult and the important thing is to get all our injured players back, so we can reach the levels of previous years. But nothing is decisive at this point in the season."
