Ligue 1 giants Olympique de Marseille are still waiting for a big check in order to let go of Argentine international Lucho Gonzalez.
The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Stade Velodrome for quite some time but Marseille’s insistence on not lowering down their asking price has left the Argentine in limbo and he is still a Marseille player.
Though EL Comandante has been with the Phoceens for only two seasons, the club is willing to listen to offers for the playmaker as the direction of the club is looking to reduce the burden on the club’s payroll.
Marseille have already let go of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gabriel-Heinze-c14310 who was reportedly earning 4.5 million Euros a year and now, the Rhone club is looking to further reduce the payroll by offloading Gonzalez who is one of the club’s highest-paid earners.
According to Rhone-Alpes-based daily newspaper La Provence, Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan are looking to help Marseille in offloading the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 man.
Initially, it was revealed that the playmaker was getting close to join La Liga side Malaga but Marseille refused to accept the Andalucian club’s six million Euros offer for the Argentine. Marseille then set a deadline of 15 July, 2011 for Gonzalez to find
the club hoping that the player might be bought by some club by that time.
However, it seems that no club is willing to put ten million Euros on the table for the experienced midfielder at the moment. Reports now suggest that Italian giants Inter Milan are set to make an offer for the 30-year-old.
The Milan giants might lose star midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wesley-Sneijder-c36799 to English Premier League giants Manchester United in the coming days and newly-appointed manager Gian Piero Gasperini will be in the market for a midfielder if that happens.
However the quota limitations of non-EU players in the Italian Serie A might dampen the chances of Lucho Gonzalez joining the Italian giants which could also mean that Marseille might be forced to keep the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/River-Plate-c40368 man at the club for next season.
