The Nerazzurri legend insists that the manager should have been given more time at the struggling San Siro outfit; believes the club can still qualify for UEFA Champions League.
Inter Milan great Sandro Mazzola has come to the defence of the sacked manager Claudio Ranieri, stating that he would have given the coach more time at the club, had he been the decision maker at the San Siro.
The coach was sacked yesterday, after a dismal run of just one win from the last 10 Serie A games. The vacant position has now been filled by Andrea Stramaccioni, who recently won NextGen tournament with Inter Milan’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/U-17-Youth-team-c40787.
The former Nerazzurri player insisted that the club has been struggling hard for wins, and he could sense that a change was imminent. He admitted that he is no insider to the club and neither acutely aware of what was going on inside, but insisted that the
time was inadequate to spin things around at the San Siro. The legend insisted that it is unfair to blame it all on the team manager and exile him, while there are other people at fault as well.
While talking to TMW, the former director to the club said:
“Inter have been struggling for a while and the results were not arriving. You would have to be inside the club to understand what went wrong, but I would have waited before coming to the conclusion to dismiss Ranieri. I don’t think the Coach is totally
to blame.”
The appointment of Andrea Stramaccioni as the new manager is widely being labelled as a bold step by the Nerazzurri management, as the coach has three squad members who are older than the 36-year-old tactician.
Mazzola refrained from judging the new appointment due to the lack of interaction with him. However, he admitted that the stats speak well of the tactician, and said that it would be interesting to see how the coach comes across in a troubled situation for
the club.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan player believes that the club can still qualify for Europe, provided they play game by game. The veteran insisted that the new manager’s first priority should be to salvage Inter Milan’s disappointing season.
The Nerazzurri are 10 points away from the third position in Serie A, with just nine games remaining until the end of the season.
