Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso backs manager Leonardo after Schalke 04 defeat - UEFA Champions league news
Inter Milan midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Esteban-Cambiasso-c12912 has put faith in his under-fire manager Leonardo Nascimento de Araujo, despite the Nerazzurri’s embarrassing home defeat at the hands of German side, Schalke 04, in the UEFA Champions League.
Cambiasso believes that Leonardo is the right man for the job and he can help the club in their quest for another treble; Inter won the Scudetto (Serie A), Italian Cup and the Champions League titles in 2010.
Inter were thrashed 5-2 at the San Siro by Schalke 04 in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final. Now the reigning European champions have a difficult task at their hands as they need to beat Schalke 04 by at least four goals in the second leg
in order to progress to the semi-final.
Defeat to a team currently 10th in the German Bundesliga did not go down well with the Italian press and Leonardo is being heavily criticised, however, Cambiasso has leaped to the defence of his under-fire manager.
He said, “I want to remind everyone that we are the only Italian side in the hunt to win all three competitions. The players, the club and the fans are all close to Leonardo. We want to rectify the situation as soon as possible and get out of this ugly situation.”
The game started brilliantly for Inter as in the first minute http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dejan-Stankovic-c10793 scored a stunner for the Nerazzuri but Schalke came back twice to level the scores at 2-2 in the first half. The second half clearly belonged to the German side as they scored
three goals to take a commanding 5-2 lead, to add to Inter’s woes defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristian-Chivu-c9519 got send-off after receiving his second yellow card.
Cambiasso believes his side were unlucky to lose by such a margin and states that sending off of Chivu proved to be the turning point of the game.
He added, "Had we taken an opportunity or two, things would be different. Had we not had a player sent off, we would not have had another goal scored against us."
Schalke host Inter for the second leg of the quarter-final tie on the 13th of April, 2011.
