Inter Milan president demands improvement
Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has demanded an improved performance on the pitch, despite being pleased with his players’ efforts so far.
The Serie A giants are currently second in the table, having been ousted from the top spot by Lazio after a 0-0 draw at home against Juventus last weekend. Though Inter have got the defence of their Scudetto
off to a good start, Moatti believes that the team should be playing better.
"Of course, I expected more, especially against Roma, and in terms of points in Milan too [against Juventus]. But both games were very interesting. My players played well on Sunday, it's just a question
of scoring goals. Every championship has its own story. If one read the papers a little while back they would have seen we were fantastic. After 10 days things change, but they will change again. The team needs to find security, but they are well ahead, despite
the change of coach," he told reporters.
Inter are currently in a transition phase, having brought in former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez to replace Jose Mourinho, who has departed to join Real Madrid. Benitez has a tough ask to emulate the
success of Mourinho, however, as the Portuguese led the club to an historic treble of the UEFA Champions League, Serie A and Italian Cup last season.
Meanwhile, Moratti dismissed claims that Inter are set to snap up Brazilian superstar Kaka from Madrid. The player is currently out injured, but faces a tough ask to get back into the first team with German
2010 FIFA World Cup star Mesut Ozil and talented youngster Sergio Canales as competition for the attacking midfield position.
That has led to claims that the player will be on his way out of the Spanish giants, but Moratti refuted claims that Inter would be Kaka’s destination. He said that: “We have never made any deals for Kaka."
