Inter Milan take advantage over AS Roma while Palermo block AC Milan – Coppa Italia round-up
Coppa Italia is still in the reach of the four teams competing in the semi-finals. AS Roma, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan, Palermo and AC Milan are all keen to go all out to secure the Italian cup. Inter are the defending champions whereas Roma were the runner-ups in the
previous campaign.
AC Milan are the favourites at the moment to win both the Serie A and Coppa Italia, as the men in red and black jerseys are in an unfathomable form. The results did not turn out to be as expected though. The first legs of the semi-finals have somehow changed
the scenario as the Nerazzurri beat the La Maggica and the weaker Palermo outfit held the League leaders to a stalemate.
AS Roma 0, Inter Milan 1 – Stadio Olimpico
The match was played at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome with the home team being the favourites to take the advantage in the first leg. Inter coming from a series of defeats in the Champions League and Serie A were being considered weak and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 were ready to
pounce at the opportunity at hand.
The match started with both the teams equally matched, creating opportunities on regular intervals. Inter Milan got lucky though and were able to beat Roma’s glove-man Alexander http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Doni-c11553 in the ending seconds of the first half when Dejan Stankovic’s strike went
into the back of the net. The late goal came as an advantage for the Serpent and it turned out to be the match winner as Roma failed to equalise in the rest of the game.
The second leg is scheduled to be played at San Siro on May 11, 2011 and it will be a tough competition for both the clubs. Coppa Italia is the only trophy both the teams can claim in the ongoing 2010-11 season and Roma still have a better chance to make
it through as Inter are lacking consistency and can easily lose focus if brought under pressure.
AC Milan 2, US Palermo 2 – Stadio Giuseppe Meazza
The League’s top runners were the hosts to Palermo for the first leg at San Siro and were not ready to accept a draw at a point where the team is aiming for winning both the Italian trophies. The Aquile left the Rossoneri in a shock when the final whistle
went off and the score stood at 2-2.
The match started in great fashion for Milan as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Pastore-c18082 levelled the scores in
the 14th minute. Both the teams were equally matched until the end of the first half but there were no more fireworks.
Palermo started off strongly in the second half and were keen to find the back of the net. Their hard work paid off in the 54th minute when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Abel-Hernández-c3432 scored the second goal, putting the Aquile upfront in the match. Milan desperately searched
for an equaliser and in the 76th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Clarence-Seedorf-c9275, netted the ball putting the Devil right back into the game. Even though the Rossoneri kept the Rosanero under pressure for the rest of the game, they
failed to find one more goal and the match ended in a draw.
The second leg will be played on May 10, 2011 at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.
Palermo have created a worrying situation for the Serie A leaders and have an opportunity for making a place in the finals of the Cup. However, despite the upset, the men in red and black jerseys have a better chance to make it through to the finals.
