Inter Milan v Juventus match preview
All eyes will be on the Giuseppe Meazza stadium on Sunday when Inter Milan, who looks to be back to form, plays host to Juventus in this weekend's hottest Serie A matchup.
Recent Form
Despite being upset last weekend by a Roma side that had been struggling early on this season, Rafa Benitez's side bounced back in style in mid-week, defeating German club Werder Bremen 4-0 at home in the Champions League. Inter will be hoping that their
home pitch will continue to yield friendly results as they are undefeated there in the league this season.
When Juventus blew away Udinese in Udine two weekends ago, supporters of the legendary Turin side might have thought they would be well back in the fold and once again making a serious challenge for the Serie A crown this season, but the Bianconeri has been
inconsistent as they lost to Palermo the following weekend.
With a victory at home against Cagliari last weekend, and an impressive 1-1 draw away to Manchester City in the Europa League during mid week, Juventus will be hoping that a victory in Milan could restore their fans' beliefs in the side's potential.
Players to watch
Inter Milan has a whole list of weapons at their disposal. With Argentinian striker Diego Milito out of the lineup against Bremen in mid week, the Beneamata didn't suffer from a lack of goals as they notched four against their beleaguered German opposition.
Three of those goals came from Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto'o.
The fourth came from their inspirational Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder who continues to turn heads ever since leading Inter Milan to Champions League glory last season, and leading his country all the way to the World Cup final over the summer, causing
many to whisper that a world footballer of the year award could be in the cards for the Dutchman who is still only 26 years old.
For Juventus, head coach Luigi Del Neri is likely to employ a 4-4-2 formation with veteran Alessandro Del Piero starting up front with Vincenzo Iaquinta who scored Juventus' lone goal against Manchester City on Thursday night. Serbian-born midfielder Milos
Krasic, who scored a hat trick against Cagliari last weekend will also be hoping for a big performance. In years past, Juventus always used to rely on their outspoken Italian international goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon to steal a victory or two. However, Buffon
is still sidelined with an injury, which means the task will fall to 33-year-old veteran Marco Storari instead.
What to expect
Inter Milan has had a few hiccups early this season as they adjust to life after Jose Mourinho, but they have enough depth in their line-up to keep on an even keel and get the results they need while they iron out the kinks. Despite injuries to some high
profile players including Milito, Thiago Motta, Javier Zanetti, Walter Samuel, and Marco Materazzi, Inter Milan has more than enough depth in just about every position. Eto'o can score from anywhere and break a game wide open at any moment. Juventus will be
unable to handle all of Inter's weapons. Inter win 2-1.
